Embodying Each Other Mode

Embodying Each Other Mode: 2 Players (can be played with groups of 8-16 with players grouping into 2)

This gameplay Mode uses the Intentional Mod and the Signifier Mod.

This gameplay Mode is loosely based off of Narrative 4’s model for personal story exchange where individuals share personal stories and then tell their partner’s story.

  1. For larger groups, players should pair off into groups of two that do not know each other at all or that do not know each other well.
  2. Each player chooses a FoF deck to use for telling their personal story.
  3. The player whose birthday is closest goes first. They look through the Situation Cards and choose one Situation Prompt to play. They place this on a table with their chosen Situation Prompt upright, this is the Signifier Card for their story.
  4. The first player then shuffles the Topic Cards and draws as many Topic Cards as the number indicated by the Situation Prompt chosen.
  5. The first player chooses which Topic Prompts to play from the Topic Cards draw. If unhappy with the Topic Prompts they may shuffle and redraw some or all of them one time. They lay the Topic Cards with the chosen Topic Prompts upright next to the Situation Card in play. They do not have to play every card drawn.
  6. The first player tells a personal story to the second player, using the Situation and Topic Prompts to direct their story. The second player can take notes if they choose to.
  7. The second player then tells the first player’s story back to them, telling the story in first person, as if it were their own personal story.
  8. Now it is the second player’s turn. They repeat Steps 3-6.
  9. The first player then does step 7.
  10. If this was done in a larger group, after players have finished telling their own and each other’s stories they can return to the group’s original meeting area. As pairs come back to the larger group, they should write down their names on a piece of paper in the order that they return to the group.
  11. When all players have finished and returned to the group’s original meeting area, players again share their partner’s story as if it were their own, starting with the players who returned to the group area first and finishing with the last players to return to the larger group.
